ONLINE CREDIT CHECKS
By Marge Harris If you have been surfing the internet for any length of time, you have probably noticed that many sites allow you to obtain your credit check - with a click of a button! That's all fine and good - in fact I am a great believer in keeping track of your credit. (Waiting to check your credit status until you are interested in purchasing is often a mistake.)
However, here's something you may not be aware of…each time you request a credit check can count AGAINST your credit score! Yes, you read that correctly! When you apply for credit, a lender is able to learn how many requests have been made regarding your credit.
When there are several, a lender questions exactly how many applications for credit you are currently seeking. (Now, you may not have even been seeking credit, but a lender doesn't know that!) This can have a very negative effect on your credit score - and perhaps for no other reason than you were surfing the internet!
