Services for Lake County Seniors

Antioch Senior Center: The drop-in center is open Monday - Friday (8:30 - 4:00) for seniors aged 60 and over. A full range of activities can be enjoyed! In addition, lunch is served daily at 11:45am for a nominal fee. Membership is $5.00/year. For further details, call 847.395.7120.

Catholic Charities: Offering comprehensive nutritional services as well as several congregate dining locations for seniors throughout Lake County. For further information, call 847.546.5733.

Condell Medical Center, Libertyville: Senior dinners are available in the dining room of the Medical Center on Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:30 for a nominal fee. For further details, call 847.362.2905 x 5290.

"ExtraCare" for Families Living with Alzheimer's: Day care with social activities for individuals in the early to mid stages of Alzheimer's providing opportunities for creativity, physical exercise and friendship. ExtraCare is currently held in two locations: The Wildwood Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Waukegan on Monday. Foss Park Senior Bowling League: Open to all seniors, the league meets every Friday beginning at 9:30am at Bertrand Bowling Lanes at 2616 Washington Street, Waukegan.

Greater North Chicago Senior Citizens Club: A regular membership meeting, with subjects of interest to seniors, is held on the second Wednesday of the month, beginning at 1:00 pm at the Community Youth Center located at 1730 S. Lewis Avenue, North Chicago. All retired seniors aged 55 and up, living within the Foss Park District boundary, are welcome. Nominal annual membership dues are collected. Lake County Council for Seniors: General membership meetings are held the first Thursday of the month (9:30am) at the State Bank of the Lakes on Center Street, east of Route 83 and west of Route 45, in Grayslake. Guest speakers are featured monthly to discuss subjects of interest to seniors. For further details, call 847.244.1720.

Lake County Forest Preserve District Elderberry Club: Designed for individuals 55 and over, the Elderberries enjoy nature programs and day trips throughout the year. For further information, call 847.968.3321.

Lake Forest Hospital Nutritional Program: Providing seniors with inexpensive nutritional meals in the hospital cafeteria (breakfast, lunch and dinner) seven days a week. Each month (third Thursday) at 5:00pm a guest speaker discusses senior related issues. The hospital cafeteria is located at 660 N. Westmoreland Road, Lake Forest. Libertyville Senior Center: The Center is a multi-purpose drop-in center open Monday through Friday from 9am - 4pm for seniors aged 60 and over (spouses of any age are welcome as well). A nominal membership fee is collected. An assortment of programs and meetings are planned throughout the month. In addition, hot lunch is served Monday - Friday at 12 noon (sign up is necessary). A nominal contribution is requested, but not required. The Center also hosts a Meals-on-Wheels program for eligible recipients. LifeTimes Services for Folks Over 50: Condell Health Network offers a comprehensive program to suit the varied needs of this age group. Monthly meetings are devoted to health, wellness and educational issues and held at the Centre Club in Libertyville. Lindenhurst Seniors: A senior aerobics class is offered to individuals 55 and over on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:45am for a nominal fee. Meet new friends at the Coffee Club on the first and third Mondays of each month from 9:45-10:45am. The Park District also sponsors various programs of interest. Mundelein Senior Center: Membership is open to seniors 50 years and up for a nominal fee. The Center sponsors a variety of programs, social club activities, and group trips for its' members. A monthly newsletter is also available. For further details, contact the Center at 847.566.4790.

Park Place: For adults 55 and older, the Waukegan Township's social center is located at 414 South Lewis Avenue, Waukegan. Scheduled hours vary depending on the day; call ahead. A wide variety of programs, services and group trips are offered. The "Rules of the Road" refresher course is available on the first Monday of the month at 9:30 am. Prairie State Legal Services: This not-for-profit agency provides legal assistance free of charge to senior citizens aged 60 and over (civil cases only). For further details, call 847.662.6925.

Round Lake Area Seniors: Membership is available at the Round Lake Park District Senior Center for a nominal annual fee. Senior Center hours are 9:00am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday at the Round Lake Park District building located at 814 Hart Road, Round Lake, IL. Daily activities for seniors 55 and over, some with a nominal fee. Additional services include: "Rules of the Road" (offered quarterly), AARP's 55 Alive Driving Course (offered quarterly), Foot Care Clinic (offered monthly), and Lake Forest Hospital Care Coach for Health Screening (offered monthly). Senior Health Insurance Program: Free Medicare counseling services are provided to seniors throughout Lake County through the Department of Insurance Senior Health Insurance Program. For a complete list of counseling center locations, call 800.548.9034.

Senior Singles: A social breakfast club for ages 55 and up meets at 9:30am each Saturday at the In-Laws Restaurant, 720 Milwaukee Avenue, Gurnee. There are no dues and no commitments required. For details, call Chuck at 847.362.5458.

Vernon Township Prime-Timers: Meeting every Monday from 11:30am - 3:00pm at 2900 N. Main Street, Prairie View. A social gathering, participants bring their own lunch and enjoy cards, conversation, desserts and beverages. "Pass a Dish" is held on the second Monday of the month. "Birthday Bingo" is enjoyed on the third Wednesday of the month. "Doctor is In" program, held the fourth Monday of the month, features a local doctor available to answer general health questions. VistaHealth "Senior Spirit": Membership available to seniors 55 and over for $20 per person or $35 per married couple. Benefits include: one free cholesterol screening per year, a variety of free and low cost diagnostic screenings, insurance bill counseling, prescription savings, health seminars accompanied by low-cost meals, reserved parking spaces, and social activities. Zion Park District Senior Citizens' Club: Featuring three options for participation. The Zion Senior Citizen's Group meets every Wednesday at 10am and also enjoys Pot Luck and Day Trips scheduled at various times throughout the month. The 55 and Over Group enjoys activities including aerobics, beach volleyball, pinochle, line and square dancing, cribbage and more Monday - Friday. The Extended Senior Group plans for overnight trips to interesting places. All groups meet at the Shiloh Center, 2600 Emmaus Avenue, Zion.
