WE'RE NOT All REALTORS . . . AND MORE!

By Marge Harris

Experience. It is certainly an important qualification for you to consider when hiring someone to help you buy or sell a home. And I have lots of experience, having received my Real Estate license in 1982! I have experience in showing the important aspects of a home to my buyer clients…experience in marketing a home to show its' best features for my seller clients…experience in negotiating the best deal possible for all my clients. I have TONS of experience alright...experience in closing sales! Yes, experience counts!

As important, however, is an agent's commitment to the real estate industry. This is one area that the public is not always familiar with, and therefore, one that is likely not considered by most. But, think about it. A real estate agent's commitment to the industry should matter very much to you. And it does to me.

What is a REALTOR? Did you know that not every real estate agent is a REALTOR? This fact is not widely understood by members of the public. Let me explain. The term REALTOR can only be used by those agents that have taken additional steps to become a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Very briefly, a member must commit to abide by a strict Code of Ethics and must fulfill continuing education requirements. This is definitely a benefit for anyone looking to buy or sell a home. And, I am a REALTOR.

What is an ePRO? As you know, the internet has substantially changed the world of real estate! In an effort to provide the knowledge and skills needed by REALTORS to put the power of the internet to work for their clients, the NAR endorsed a time-consuming and extensive online program on the use of the World Wide Web. It is known as the ePRO Certification program. As an ePRO, I employ the best techniques possible to benefit clients that are buying and selling real estate.

What is a SRES? Designed to educate REALTORS in assisting maturing homeowners, The Senior Advantage Real Estate Council offers a designation called the Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES). The SRES designation identifies those who have successfully completed the coursework as well as several prerequisites, including actual experience (closed transactions) with senior clients. Having earned my designation in May, 2000, my senior clients can feel comfortable that I have the knowledge and expertise to meet their unique and special needs and concerns.

I hope this has provided you a little insight into what I am doing, behind the scenes so to speak, on behalf of my clients. It is important to me to give you my experience and my knowledge...to guide you through a smooth real estate transaction. You can count on me!
