GETTING YOUR DECK READY FOR WINTER
By Marge Harris Decks come in all shapes and sizes, don't they? As I show homes in my market area, I see all sorts: small, large, two or three tiered, many very decorative! But one thing they ALL have in common is a need for maintenance!
It doesn't matter whether your deck was built recently, or you have enjoyed it for years. It must be maintained. Fall is a great time to waterproof your deck. Without proper waterproofing, your deck can soak up water. This causes the wood to expand as well as providing a powerful place for mold, mildew and wood rot. Over time, the deck will crack and splinter.
Don't take that chance! Remember to select a finish that is designed specifically for wood.
